1. Is the correct entity selected in the chart filter? The target line only appears when the (sub-)entity for which you created the target is also ticked in the chart's filter. A target you set on a subsidiary is not automatically visible in a chart that filters on the parent organisation, and vice versa.
- Open the chart and click the filter icon.
- Tick the entity the target was set on. Is the target set at multiple levels? Tick them all, or tick the most specific level you want to see in the chart.
- Save the filter and reload the chart.
2. Is the target set on the same indicator the chart shows? A target line only appears on a chart that displays exactly the same indicator. A target on CO₂e direct and indirect does not show up on a chart that was built on the CO₂e Scope 1 indicator. For that reason, try to work with the CO₂e direct and indirect indicator wherever you can.
- Look at your target: which indicator is it set on? (CO₂e, diesel consumption, waste, CO₂ per turnover, …)
- Look at your chart: which indicator does it show?
- If they're not the same, the line will not appear. Either adjust the chart, or create a second target on the indicator the chart uses.
3. Has data been entered for your reference year? A target percentage is calculated relative to a reference year. If no data has been entered for that year yet, the calculation cannot be made and the line is not shown — there is simply no starting point to compare against.
- Check which year your reference year is (on the targets page).
- Open a gauge within that indicator and check whether the reference year is fully filled in and released or approved.
- Is your reference year not yet completed or not yet finished? Move your target to the most recent fully completed year as an interim starting point.
4. Does this chart type support a target line? Not every chart type in SmartTrackers supports a target line. A bar or line chart per year will normally display the line; some distribution charts (pie, donut, stacked bar without a time dimension) will not.
- Open the chart settings and check, under the Show target option, whether it is available and ticked.
- Is the option not there? Temporarily change the chart type to a line or bar chart per year to test whether that resolves the issue.
