Once you’ve entered your gauges, you can create a chart to gain insight into your CO₂ emissions.
This can be done on the My Charts page or by inserting a chart into a report. Most report templates, such as the template "Energy and CO₂ Assessment," already have a chart for CO₂ emissions.
Configuring the Chart
To configure the chart, select the indicator CO₂ Direct and Indirect.
On the right side of the screen, you’ll find several configuration options:
- Period: Select the time period for which you want to view the CO₂ emissions.
- Name: Customize the chart title.
- Chart type: If you're displaying data for a single year, a pie chart may be suitable. If you want to show emissions over several years, a stacked bar chart is a good option.
- Decimals: By default, the number of decimals is set to 2. For a CO₂ footprint, you may choose to display 1 or 0 decimals.
- Option Target line: If you’ve set a reduction target in SmartTrackers, you can choose to display it in the chart. The target will be shown for the selected timeframe.
- Slice: Try out different combinations for better insights:
- Horizontal: Time interval + Vertical: Function - Climate Change → Insight into which activities contribute most to emissions
- Horizontal: Time interval + Vertical: Indicator → Insight into emissions per scope
- Horizontal: Time interval + Vertical: Organisational entity→ Shows which business unit contributes most to total emissions
- Horizontal: Organisational entity or Country + Vertical: Indicator → Deeper insight for a specific year
- Types of values: Select actual value if you want to create your organisation’s CO₂ footprint.
- Filter by indicator: This allows you to include or exclude specific categories per scope. For example, you can choose to report only Scope 1, Scope 2, and business travel — instead of all Scope 3 categories.
- Unit: For a CO₂ footprint, tonnes is the most accessible and commonly used unit.
- Entities: If you want to create a CO₂ footprint for the entire organisation, you do not have to select anything. Not selecting anything means it will automatically take all. If you only want to generate a footprint for a entity or branch office, select just that specific unit.
- Function - Climate Change: Here, you can select which categories to include or exclude. If nothing is selected, all categories will be included by default.
- VSME/ESRS/GHG-P categories: These are likely not relevant when creating a CO₂ emissions chart.
- Quantities: Filtering by quantity can be useful if you want to display only the emissions from, for example, electricity usage. You will then select only the quantity Energy > Electricity.
